Chapter Four

Luna wasn’t sure if she was aggravated with the big shifter or amused. He’d

scrunched himself into one of the smaller armchairs, probably because it was nearer to her desk, and was either intently reading or making a good show of it. She’d caught him looking her way several times, but he always ducked back into his book once he realized he was busted. It was definitely cute that he wanted to watch over her, but he was scaring away the patrons. Well, the male ones at any rate, and she wasn’t sure she was really all that broken up about it.

Snagging her purse from under her desk, she made the rounds of shutting off

lights and locking the front and side doors before walking over to the big lummox. She kicked his boot with her open toe shoe and winced as she belatedly realized they must be steel-toed boots. He put the book down and looked up at her, waiting for what she didn’t know.

“I’m done,” she said. “We can go wherever it is we need to go, but I’m going to follow you in my car this time. I know you told me to wear pants, so I could ride on the back of your bike, but I don’t want to leave my car here. If my brother is after me, I wouldn’t put it past him to tamper with it while no one is around.”

His eyebrows rose.

“What?”

“Or we could take your car home, you could park it in the garage, then you

could put on some jeans and ride with me to the clubhouse.”

Luna sighed and crossed her arms.

“Don’t get huffy with me.” He rose to his feet, tucked the book under his arm, and pulled her closer with his free hand.

Luna tilted her head back to look up at him and felt her heart skip a beat. Had he always been this handsome? She’d noticed last night and earlier that he was good looking, but in the waning light he looked downright sexy. Did he always have a five o’clock shadow? He’d had one last night and he had one again today. So, either he hadn’t shaved, or his hair grew really fast. Hmm. Shifter genes. She’d bet on the second option. She’d never been one for facial hair, but she’d bet he would even be sexy with a beard.

“You’re staring,” he said.

“Am I?”

His lips tipped up on one corner in amusement.

“Yeah, I guess I am. Sorry.”

“Doesn’t bother me, sweetheart. You can look as long as you’d like.” He took her hand and placed it on his chest next to his cut. “You can touch too.”

She felt her face flush, but it wasn’t from embarrassment, although she should be embarrassed. Her thoughts had taken a detour and gone into naughty territory. The muscles under her fingertips flexed and she bit her lip to hold back the moan that sprang to her lips. Damn, but he was solid! She’d bet he looked downright sinful without a shirt. And naked?

Luna fought the urge to fan herself.
